Conferences: Thank you for coming and visiting about your child's progress. I really enjoy the insights you provide, and they help me instruct your child, as well as the others, in a more enlightened, guided way. 

I feel like we are over the first hurdle as a class. I have had less late work and fewer interruptions. We are improving the listening skills (following directions). We will continue to respect each others' opinions and practice compromise. 

Upcoming dates:

Reading

5th graders: We are back in our Lead 21 Readers. One group is reading about hibernation and the other one is reading about the deep ocean.

Skills: Main idea, summaries, tone & mood, opinions & facts. We’ll be doing these for about 2 weeks.

6th graders: Students continue with The Year of the Hangman and Bound.

Language--With the short week, we did not get to all of the items below, so they are still on the list. 

Skills: Dialogue & using quotations properly

Writing—Expository writing. Persuasive writing.

LWR—poly

Begin Ch 4--Reasons for exploration

Science—Robots & cells. The students are writing comic strips with organelles as the characters. We did not make our cells last week, so we will do that on Thursday AM.

Robot Club: For those who would like to continue exploring programming and robotic challenges. No fee, just fun!  J It will begin on Wednesday, November 7th and run through Wednesday, December 12th from 3:15 – 4:15. There is one exception--  The second club meeting will be on Tuesday, November 13th.  I will be out of town on the 14th  of November.
