Our first auction was a great success! Students spent over $700 of their earned money. Our next auction will be Monday, October 17th.

Students are dismissed at NOON on Thursday this week in the elementaries only.

A message from Mrs. Reitz regarding coupon books (6th grade only)

Hello Parents!
The deadline for our Preferred Coupon Booklets is next Monday, September 26th.  Please make sure your child has sold at least  7-8 of them, OR if they are not selling, you are planning to make a donation of $70 to cover the expenses for your child.  Once again, this money is being used to purchase a yearbook for each child, along with expenses for our field trip to the Lewis & Clark Caverns and for our 6th grade party at Rose Park.  If your child has not sold any booklets yet, the neighborhoods that "feed" into Arrowhead School might be interested (Arrowhead does not sell these booklets and they are popular!).   They really do sell quite easily, especially if you are selling in a neighborhood that hasn't bought them yet this year.  Thanks for all of your help and support!

SUBJECT UPDATES:

READING: Both classes are reading required books. Students need to write 3-5 vocab words, 3-5 discussion questions, and as many summaries of the chapters as they are assigned to read. MOST are doing well with this. Some are struggling. Please ask your child when reading is assigned if they have the accompanying work done as well as the reading.
LANGUAGE: Continuing with diagramming adjectives and writing (both creative and expository). LWR quiz on FRIDAY this week. Prefixes, suffixes, and roots are below.
SOCIAL STUDIES: 5th graders have a TEST on Chap 1 onWED and their maps are due on FRIDAY. We will start Chapter 2 on Friday.

iKeepBookmarks.com

I will be putting frequently used bookmarks on this web site so you or your children can access them from home. Right now I have one called Calculation Nation there. It is a FANTASTIC site for math practice (at their level) and logical thinking. [My current favorite is neXtu. J] I will be introducing the games in class. However, students may access them at any time and read the directions for playing them.

Students need a login name and password. I have created 4 currently. They all center around the name of Zeb and a #, and the password is my last name with a #. You will need the underscore in the user name.

Accounts:

User name: Zeb_1 Password:   porisch1
User name: Zeb_2    Password:   porisch2
User name: Zeb_3   Password:   porisch3
User name:  Zeb_4  Password:   porisch4

I have made these accounts for Calculation Nation so that the students can challenge each other. They will know that if a “Zeb” is online, that it is someone from the class. Each account has to have a separate email address associated with it, so at the current time, I only have 4 set up.

I will be updating this page as we get nearer to the first day of school so check back before then.

I apologize for having to change my address. The old address wasn’t letting me in.  L I have lost my “techy-ness” and had to start again.

PINK SLIPS: I am still handing out a LOT OF THESE. Please ask for the assignment notebook every night.

Mrs. Beatty and Mrs. Reitz are so pleased with the behavior and interactions of the 6th graders coming to their Social Studies. I am proud of them, and I wanted to pass the message along to you.  J

THANK YOU to Sherry Ross, who volunteered to be our class’s person for the Yearbook. I also have 2 people who have said they will go to Moss Mansion with the 6th graders in December. I will get those dates to you ASAP.

There are 2 parents who have volunteered (from other classrooms) to be involved with Student Council. As soon as I hear how that all will work, I will post it here.

I apologize for having to change my address. The old address wasn’t letting me in.  L I have lost my “techy-ness” and had to start again.

PINK SLIPS: I am still handing out a LOT OF THESE. Please ask for the assignment notebook every night.

NWEA tests are done, as is the 5th grade writing assessment (done only in the fall). We should be back into a schedule by next week.

Coupon Books for 6th graders: I believe the selling of these will be coming to a close. Please visit with your child about turning in what needs to be turned in. Remember: You can make a donation instead of selling the booklets.

Complete spelling lists: If you would like a list of ALL THE SPELLING WORDS FOR THE YEAR, please email me and I will send it to you. Emily Deichl generated lists for the 5th grade book as well as the 6th grade book. Of course, the words are also in your child's book as well as on the blog.

Coming in October: Dictation sentences for the Challenge Words. This is to improve listening skills.

These sentences will be printed on the blog and written on the board for the students to copy down on Friday. They must spell all of the words in the sentence correctly. More points will be taken off for the spelling word than for the other words in the sentence. They must capitalize and punctuate the sentence correctly. The sentences will not contain difficult words.

I will not announce the spelling word. I will simply say the sentence twice (with a long pause between). They will be expected to underline the spelling word.

Ex: This week the 6th graders have the Challenge Word turquoise. The sentence might be: She lost her turquoise ring.

Remember: This will not start until October.

There are 2 parents who have volunteered (from other classrooms) to be involved with Student Council. As soon as I hear how that all will work, I will post it here.
