With the short week, we will not be having spelling or Latin word roots this week. J The spelling words for the week of Oct 24th are at the end for those who would like to get a jump on things. The 5th graders have a tough list that week!
SUBJECT UPDATES:
READING: Projects (in class) for the books we finished
LANGUAGE: Continuing with diagramming adverbs; writing expository and creative. We’re taking one of the writings to final copy with the help of Nina LaSeur and Lee Gibb!
SOCIAL STUDIES: 5th graders: Chapter 3 test on Wed (open note test)
SCIENCE: Acid Base testing and analyzing results.
MATH: Division and multiplication. Tessellation projects due on WEDNESDAY.
SPELLING: none
KEYBOARDING: We’re starting this week. They goal is to get somewhere in the 20 words/minute range. Students will be practicing at LEAST 3 times per week in class. I am including the sites on the IKeepBookmarks.com site (end of the blog) if you want to access them from home.
Students can advance as quickly as their skills allow. http://www.sense-lang.org/typing/tutor/lessons.php?lang=EN&lesson=1
Some games for practicing the keyboard appear at the bottom. I liked Typershark, Typingmaster (a lot like Pac Man), and Typing Chef, if your kids already have pretty decent keyboarding skills. http://edtechideas.com/keyboarding-sites-for-kids/
